Bandar Seri Begawan is the largest and capital city of the Sultanate of Brunei and can be found in the Brunei Muara district in the north east of Brunei. The city sits on the banks of the Brunei River.
Bandar Seri Begawan was named after the Sultan’s late father, Omar Ali Saifuddien and was changed from Bandar Brunei on 5th October 1970. The title of Begawan is the name that is given to those monarchs of Brunei that abdicate their thrones.
