Brasilia Holiday Weather Overview
Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, is situated in centre west of the country, among the Brazilian highlands. It has some amazing architecture, and a very modern, urban feel in the centre of the city, with most of the green areas further out in the residential zones.
Despite its concrete jungle image, however, large parts of Brasilia have been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, because of its impressive space age buildings and its exceptionally planned design. Parts of the city are very beautiful, and there is a vibrant arts and culture sector.
Brasilia National Park
The national park is a must-visit for anyone travelling to Brasilia - this stunning park boasts creeks, lakes, natural springs, caves and forests, all just 10km from the city centre. Wildlife to view here includes wolves, jaguars, anacondas and giant armadillos. The park can get very busy during the dry season, when it's hugely refreshing to take a dip in the mineral springs.
Water sports
If you enjoy water sports, head to Lake Paranoa, an artificial lake with the second largest marina in Brazil. Here you can enjoy windsurfing, wakeboarding and all manner of other wet and wild sports, throughout the year.
New Age Cults
A fascinating aspect of Brasilia is its large assortment of religious cults and new age adherents. If you're stuck for something to do on a rainy wet season afternoon, why not visit Vale do Amanhecer, just 12 miles outside the city. Here, thousands of psychic mediums work on absorbing the earth's negative energy, and hundreds of visitors each day seek spiritual guidance.
City Centre Attractions
If you're visiting Brasilia in the wet season, it's the perfect excuse to explore some of Brasilia's museums and monuments. From the viewing tower at the Eixo Monumental to the city's striking cathedral, built in the shape of an inverted crown of thorns, there is plenty to see which will keep you out of the rain. Don't miss the Memorial do Pavos Indigenous to learn more about the native inhabitants of this region and their culture.
