Sanya Holiday Weather Overview
Sanya is one of three prefecture-level cities on Hainan and is the southernmost city on the Chinese Island. Sanya is well known for having a tropical climate and due to this it has become a very popular tourist destination.
Sanya is also the training site for the Chinese beach volleyball team and is home to small concentrations of the Utsul people.

Sanya has plenty of hotels to choose from as well as wide variety of smaller inns, hostels and bed and breakfasts.
Some of the most luxurious and expensive hotels in Sanya are the Mandarin Oriental, the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, the Hilton Sanya Resort & Spa, the Conrad Sanya Haitang Bay, the Banyan Tree and the Resort Horizon. Though they are quite expensive they are well worth the money if you are looking to relax in style in the city.

Sanya has lots of different attractions that run in the theme of relaxation including tours, hot springs, beaches and areas of natural beauty. Some of the more popular sites and activities in Sanya include Yalong Bay, Wuzhizhou Coral Island, the Nanshan Cultural Tourist Area, the Sanya Daxiaodongtian Area, the Nantian Hot Spring Resort and the Nanshan Temple.
When is the best month to visit Sanya?
There is no best period to visit Sanya as the weather is warm all year round though if you want to avoid the rainy season then it is best to visit the island city between September and April. If you can it is best to avoid Chinese New Year and China’s National Day Holiday (October 1st – 7th) as these are the busiest times of year in Sanya.

Sanya has a tropical climate that can also be seen as a tropical coastal monsoon climate which means that the city is blessed with warm weather all year round and has four distinct seasons as well as a rainy season. The rainy season begins in June and ends in October. The temperatures during this time period are at their height along with the rainfall with temperatures reaching up to 38 degrees Celsius.
Winter is the coldest time in Sanya and only lasts from January until February but the temperatures remain high with the average daily temperature being around 20 degrees Celsius.
What to pack and wear in Sanya?
As it is hot all year round you need only take light clothing with you, in winter you may feel that in the evenings you need something slightly warmer in order to keep out the slightly cooler night. If visiting Sanya during the rainy season it is advisable to take a light waterproof with you to keep out the rain but nothing too thick or you’ll overheat in the rain.
