Kuta Holiday Weather Overview
Kuta is one of Indonesia's major tourist destinations - a lively, party-focused beach town in southern Bali, known for its long, sandy beach and its surfing opportunities. Sadly, it is also known as the site of the Bali terrorist bombings in 2002 and 2005, but the town has recovered very well from these atrocities, and now commemorates the victims in a nine day annual peace celebration each October.
Kuta is a popular beach destination all year round, and is also ideally situated for exploring Bali's cultural and natural delights.
Kuta's Climate
Due to Kuta's proximity to the equator, the weather is hot and humid all year round, with little seasonal variation in temperatures. There is, however, a distinct rainy season between November and March.
Kuta in the Dry Season
Kuta's dry season falls between April and October. It would be wrong to expect no rain at all at this time, however - showers can occur at any time, but they are likely to be short and severe rather than prolonged.
Average daily highs in April are around 31°C, falling to 29°C in July and August, before rising again to reach 31°C in October. Overnight temperatures are a balmy 23-24°C throughout this period, which can make it difficult to sleep if you're not used to these kinds of temperatures.
This is the busiest season in Kuta, so expect crowds. If you're visiting Kuta in the dry season, you'll need to take plenty of sunscreen, sunglasses and lightweight summer clothing. Remember to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, and try to stay out of the midday sun if you can - the temperatures given here are averages, so it can often be much hotter than this.
Kuta in the Rainy Season
Between November and March, Kuta experiences its wettest season. It's still extremely hot, however, with average daily highs of around 31-32°C throughout, and overnight "lows" of 25°C.
Rainfall peaks in January, and then begins to lessen off slightly through the rest of the season. Thunderstorms are common and the winds can be high too. The rain can be heavy enough to cause localised flooding, and waterproof shoes are definitely required. It's much too hot for any waterproof clothing, though, but an umbrella would be a good addition to your suitcase.
Most of the rain falls in storms in the late afternoon or early evening, but the days can be muggy and overcast even when dry. It's not ideal weather for sunbathing, and the humidity can be uncomfortable, but it's still a good season to visit if you don't mind the rain and if your interests are more geared towards Bali's culture and wildlife than its beaches.
