Rabat Holiday Weather Overview
Rabat, the capital city of Morocco, is often overlooked by travellers who choose to head instead to Casablanca or Marrakech - but those who make the effort to visit Rabat will find a very pleasant colonial city, with plenty of history to be enjoyed.
Situated on the Atlantic coast, Rabat has a Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and warm summers.
Best Time to Visit Rabat
Like the rest of Morocco, Rabat is warm all year round. The city doesn't get as hot as some other destinations, due to ocean breezes, which can make it a more pleasant destination in the heat of the summer.
In July and August, temperatures average around 28°C during the day, and around 17oc overnight. It rarely rains in these months, and you can go for weeks at a time without a spot of rain. September maintains the warmth, although there is slightly more rain in this month - but you're still only looking at perhaps 4 or 5 days of rain.

December and January are the coolest and wettest months of the year, with rain on around 10 days each month. However, temperatures rarely fall below 17°C in the daytime and 7°C at night - take a cardigan or light jacket to cope with the chillier evenings.
During March, April and May, temperatures start to climb towards the low 20s Celsius, and the rain gradually decreases.
Sun, Sea and Sand?
If you're hoping to enjoy Rabat's beach, the summer months are obviously the best time to visit, although also the most expensive. If your interest in the city is more cultural, then spring is probably the best time to visit - there will be fewer crowds, and the temperatures will be more comfortable for exploring the medina and the city's archaeological and historic sites such as the Chellah necropolis and the Hassan Tower.
Rabat's Gardens
Rabat is known for it good selection of parks and gardens, and these are beautiful in any season. If you're visiting in the summer, the Botanical Gardens are the perfect place for a picnic; in the winter months, enjoy a stroll through the Andalous Garden at the Kasbah of the Oudaias.
What to Bring to Rabat
Summer visitors to Rabat will want to bring sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat, and plenty of light cotton clothing. If you're visiting in the autumn or winter, bring a jacket or sweater for the chillier evenings, and an umbrella.
