Batu Feringgi Holiday Weather Overview
Batu Ferringhi is a beach area in Penang, Malaysia. The strip is packed with luxury hotels and restaurants, and the area is famous for its night market, where tourists can buy all kinds of genuine and not so genuine goods.
Although this is one of the most heavily developed areas of Malaysia, the white sandy beaches and palm trees still retain their original beauty. There are a variety of attractions in or near Batu Ferringhi apart from the beach there is a popular butterfly conversation centre, a tropical spice garden, an interesting toy museum and a tropical fruit farm where you can sample the famously smelly durian fruit.
Batu Ferringhi’s Climate
Because of its proximity to the equator, Batu Ferringhi has a very hot climate all year round, with little seasonal variation in temperatures. Because this is a tropical rainforest zone you can expect a lot of rain throughout the year, but there is a distinct wet season from April to October during which the monsoon rains can be very heavy.
Best Time to Visit Batu Ferringhi
The best time to visit Batu Ferringhi depends on what you are looking for. If you don’t mind the crowds and want the driest weather, then you should visit between December and February, as this is the driest time of year - but also the most expensive and the busiest.
If you don’t mind the monsoon rain, you can find some great deals during the wet season, but this is not the best time for watersports as the heavy rain and strong winds churn up the waters.
Batu Ferringhi in the Dry Season
Batu Ferringhi’s dry season extends from November to March, although both ends of the season will be wetter than the middle section from December to February. Don’t think that there will be no rain at all - you will still experience 5-8 rainy days a month, but the rain will be less intense. Average daily highs during the dry season hover at around 31-32°C, with overnight temperatures of 23°C.
If you’re visiting Batu Ferringhi in the dry season, take plenty of sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, beach wear and lots of lightweight summer clothing.
Batu Ferringhi in the Wet Season
Batu Ferringhi’s wet season extends from April to October, with September and October being the wettest months, with rain on more than 20 days in each of those two months on average.
The monsoon rain does not fall all day, every day - it’s usually sharp, torrential downpours in the late afternoon or early evening, often accompanied by thunder and lightning. The rest of the day may well be fine and sunny, and average daily highs are around 30°C. With overnight lows of 24°C, it can feel sticky, humid and uncomfortable to sleep.
If you’re visiting Batu Ferringhi in the wet season, take waterproof shoes and perhaps an umbrella, but don’t bother with a waterproof jacket - it will be much too hot for that.
