Braga Holiday Weather Overview
Braga is a historic city in northern Portugal, and one of the most important religious centres in the country. Boasting more than 30 important churches, the city is also home to the oldest archdiocese in Portugal - religious festivals here are on a very grand scale indeed.
Braga's long history is everywhere you look, and the city is dotted with historic remains, museums and places of interest. It's also an important shopping and dining hub for this part of Portugal, and has much to offer the holidaymaker or casual visitor.
Braga's Climate
Braga has a Mediterranean climate; its inland position means that it gets hotter than many of the Portuguese coastal resorts. Atlantic winds which are channelled through the area's valleys also contribute to cool nights, with frost a regular occurrence through the winter months.
Braga in Spring
Spring is a very popular time to visit Braga, and the city can be exceptionally busy, especially during Holy Week. Average daily highs are 12°C in March, rising to 19°C in May. Nights, however, are cold - barely above freezing in March, and only around 9°C even in May. Spring showers are common, so you should take an umbrella with you.

Braga in Summer
Summer is the peak tourist season in Braga, and thousands of visitors descend on the city for the annual Roman re-enactment festival in August. Expect a warm, pleasant summer, with very little rainfall. Average daily highs of 23°C in June rise to 28°C in July and August. Note, however, that temperatures drop sharply at night - even in August, overnight lows can drop to below 10°C.
Most summer days in Braga are sunny and clear, although occasional windy spells take the edge off the heat. Pack sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat, and be prepared for heat waves which can push the temperatures to the high 30s Celsius.
Braga in Autumn
Autumn is a quiet season in Braga, which makes it perfect if you want to escape the crowds. September is still very warm, with average daily highs of 25°C, but again, watch out for the night time drop - overnight lows of 8°C in September will start to feel very chilly. By November, daily highs of 12°C give way to frosty nights with lows of just 2°C - layered clothing is a great idea for an autumn visit to Braga.
Braga in Winter
Winters in Braga are colder than you might expect for a Portuguese city. Between December and February, daytime temperatures struggle to reach 9oc and overnight temperatures hover consistently at or just below freezing. Winter is also the wettest time of the year, so take an umbrella and a good coat if you want to enjoy the Christmas festivities in Braga.
