Lagos Holiday Weather Overview
Lagos, situated on the Algarve, is one of Portugal's most visited towns. Known for its stunning beaches, the town is also a historic and cultural hub. It played an important part in the Portuguese Age of Discovery, and was also a major player in the slave trade. For visitors who seek sun and sand, it's an ideal choice, and with so much history to view there's plenty to keep tourists enthralled throughout the year.
The Climate of Lagos
Lagos has a typical Algarve climate, with long, hot summers and very mild, short winters. The town receives adequate rainfall, but is not particularly wet. With around 300 days of sunshine each year, it's easy to see why it's a popular destination for a winter break.
Lagos in Spring
Spring comes early to the Algarve, and Lagos is no exception. Expect average daily highs of 18°C already in March, rising rapidly to the mid 20s Celsius by the end of May. Overnight lows of around 10-14°C are normal, and although you may catch a shower or two in early spring, the rain has almost gone by May.
Spring is a popular time to visit Lagos, as the town's green spaces come to life and there are not so many crowds. It's perfect weather for exploring Lagos' history and heritage, and it's good beach weather too as the spring progresses.
Lagos in Summer
June, July and August are the peak months for tourism in Lagos, so if you visit at this time you can expect the beaches to be crowded. Average daily highs range between 25 and 35°C with overnight lows of around 20-22°C. You'd be very unlucky to catch a shower during the summer months.
The wall to wall sunshine is very pleasant, of course, but sometimes the wind does increase in the summer and the Atlantic breezes can take the edge off the heat. If you're visiting Lagos in the summer, be sure to take sunglasses, a hat and plenty of sunscreen.
Lagos in Autumn
September and October are really extensions of summer in Lagos - daily highs can reach the mid 20s right until the end of October, although the night time temperatures do start to fall down to the mid teens Celsius. Expect a little rain as autumn progresses, but most days will still be sunny and fine.
By November, you're looking at average daily highs of 19°C and nights of 9°C - take layered clothing if you're visiting Lagos in late autumn.
Lagos in Winter
Lagos' winters are wonderfully mild. Throughout December, January and February you can expect daytime highs of up to 20°C, and typically at least 14-15°C. Night times are cooler, but the temperature rarely dips below 7°C.
This is Lagos' wettest season, and you should expect the odd rainy day, or even a rainy week - but most of the time, the sunshine prevails with crisp, clear winter air.
