Franschhoek, known as the gourmet capital of South Africa, is situated in the heart of the Cape winelands. The surrounding towering peaks and the pristine natural environment have contributed to the town's popularity as a tourist destination, as has its proximity to Cape Town.

December, January and February are summer in Franschhoek, and this is the most popular time to visit the town. Expect warm, sunny weather, with average daily highs of around 25-30°C and sultry nights of around 20°C.

Temperatures will begin to drop at this time, but only a little - the end of May still sees day time highs of 22°C and you will be unlucky if the night time temperature dips into single figures. Again, however, bring layered clothing to account for all eventualities.
